Česko.Digital
Česko Digital is a communique of expert volunteers who help the state and non-profit organizations in their free time. I volunteered at Česko Digital by participation in the Inclusion project, which was focused on digitally endangered and excluded residents in the Czech Republic.
The goal of the project was to find a solution for about 30% of the population who do not understand digital technologies. As a result of the research phase, a by-product based on personas identified from the research was created, which we decided to publish on our own microsite.
In 2023, the research unveiled a compelling insight: the team of Cesko.Digital identified 7+1 distinct personas that encapsulate the digitally vulnerable and excluded segments of society. By publishing unique needs and behaviours, other organisations can craft more inclusive digital experiences that truly empower these communities. The unwavering commitment to enhancing digital literacy and accessibility should be central to design ethos, ensuring that everyone can thrive in this fast-paced digital world.
The objectives of the microsite were to consolidate all profiles onto a single page for enhanced data comparison and to elevate the visibility of personas. Additionally, we aimed to create a page that not only showcases the project but also allows for future expansion with additional pages if required. This microsite initiative flourished through a spirit of collaboration, bringing together an innovative Product Owner, a talented copywriter, and committed developers who were instrumental in crafting the ultimate solution.
01/ From PDF to Online
PDF Personas
The personas fall into three primary categories: children, socio-economically disadvantaged individuals, and seniors. Notably, within the socio-economically disadvantaged and elderly groups, there are discerned personas that reflect regular users, occasional users, and those who are technically excluded. So far, we had the basic personas’ information only in PDF. Let’s go online! 🙂

Persona presentation
Crafting a unified display of all personas on a single page seemed to be quite a challenge, particularly given the depth of the profiles. First, I focused on visualizing the profile itself in the online form. I tried several options and finally decided on a combination of carousel and accordions, which are functional, dose information gradually while not overwhelming the user.

02/ The Design
Design of homepage with engaging persona profiles
The homepage serves as a concise overview of the project, featuring all the profiles on click for each, potential solutions for the main product derived from our ideation process, an invitation for everyone to engage in the conversation, and logos of partner organizations who participated on the research too.

Project presentation
The project page uncovers details about the research initiatives, an insightful roadmap, and a clear outline of the three primary challenges government and non-profit sector should be committed to addressing.

Pages for further development
As the design proposal for the microsite evolved, I incorporated additional pages that truly captured our vision. After proudly clinching the European Digital Skills Awards 2024, we felt it was the perfect opportunity to showcase our achievements on the microsite. Furthermore, I presented design of a page for sharing innovative solutions that other organisations can draw inspiration from or adapt for their own needs.
Pages will be made available here once published on the official website. Thank you for your understanding!

04/ What did I learn & Key Takeaways
The microsite has proven to be a remarkable success, not only for clinching the award but especially for fostering collaboration and sharing valuable information across various organisations.
Crafting this microsite was a nice opportunity for me to showcase a project that holds significant importance, especially given that it impacts around 30% of the population.
My collaboration with the developers revealed an opportunity to grow. After the project handover, it became clear that the user interface was too complex for Webflow. It was unfortunate that the developers didn’t seek the designer’s input, as simple adjustments could have streamlined the UI straightaway. This oversight likely caused unnecessary delays, highlighting the importance of early discussions with the development team to enhance efficiency and avoid pitfalls. Next time we do better!
